Amongst football's greatest managers, Jamie Carragher has hailed the late Johan Cruyff as the sport's most important person ever.

The Liverpool legend was tasked with comparing some of the best bosses in the business in a game of 'winner stays on' for Sky Sports and there were perhaps some surprising results.

Thierry Henry read off a list of managers with huge collective success to their name, with the personnel including World Cup, Champions League and Premier League winners.

Carragher's first selection was between his former boss Rafael Benitez and Fabio Capello, with the ex-Red opting to go for the latter as the best out of the two.

Capello was then put up against Spain's World Cup winning gaffer Vicente del Bosque, who went on to win the second round.

However, he quickly lost top spot to Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid legend Jose Mourinho, who was also deemed better than Arsene Wenger.

Carragher also chose the 'Special One' over record four-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti, with the Portuguese icon continuing to reign supreme in this game.

This was until Henry said Cruyff, and the late Dutchman received glowing praise: "I'm going to go with Johan Cruyff.

"I don't necessarily think he'd had more success in his career, but I think Cruyff is that unique in that what he built at Barcelona is still getting spoke about now, a philosophy he put into the club. For me, Johan Cruyff is the most important person ever in football."

Despite Carragher's thoughts on Cruyff's impact, Pep Guardiola came out on top against both him, as well as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

However, when the five-time Premier League champion with Manchester City faced Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United hero emerged as the greatest of all-time.

"I'll go with Sir Alex Ferguson over Pep just because he did it with Aberdeen," said Carragher.

"Listen, Pep is probably never going to do that, he's never going to take a team like that. So I'm going to go with Sir Alex Ferguson."

Having won 38 major trophies with United across 26 seasons, it comes as no surprise that he takes top spot for many fans.

Ferguson takes the title of GOAT, but Carragher also ensured that Cruyff was recognised for his impact in football.

Aside from a stunning playing career that saw him win three Ballons d'Or, he lifted six league titles across spells at Ajax and Barcelona as well as various European honours.
