Monday racing tips

HUNTINGDON

  • 2.35: Lightening Mahler 13/8 (2pts)
  • 3.05: Tap N Go Leo 15/8 (1pt)

EXETER

  • 3.50: Pirates' Tale 9/4 (1pt)
  • 4.20: Roger Rarebit 11/2 each-way (1pt)

Lightening Mahler

Won her hurdle debut for the Skeltons in January and dropping down a touch in trip was far off the pace in fourth at Warwick as the odds-on favourite.

However, it was noted the mare started making respiratory noises and was subsequently taken to have a wind op within two days.

She was up against some classy horses that day anyway and was going well enough until a short way out.

The winner, Either Or who was only 11/8, went on to Grade 2 company next time out, while second placed Victoria Milano went on to win next time over 2m, before also going for a Grade 2. But this was the mares' novices' hurdle at Cheltenham Festival.

Lots to like about this horse's form prior and including that pulled-up effort so has a big chance if bouncing back from that surgery.

It comes at an optimal time too with the yard in exceptional form.

Tap N Go Leo

Tipped Tap N Go Leo back in February for his first start over 3m which ended in a runaway success at Catterick as the NAP of the day.

He ended up being very well suited to the step up in trip and dispatched his maiden tag in style.

Though it was a battle between him and another Dan Skelton-trained horse that day too in testing conditions.

The battle commenced as Tap N Go Leo looked to be going best about three furlongs from home and joined the leader Micro Millions before clearing away well after taking the last.

That was an impressive display having not taking the third flight from home very well which could have made a bigger impact on his ability to go over the last two, but he brushed it off and quickly got to work.

Should make the most of that here too despite a tricky weight to be given after that maiden success.

Pirates' Tale

Course and distance winner from his last run and that was a nice win to shed his maiden tag.

He's very lightly raced as a six-year-old and made his debut behind the 200/1 winner Absolute Steel.

Lowry's Bar was second in that race having been rated 133 on the back of four straight wins bidding for five in a row.

Pirates' Tale then won next time out nudged down to 2m and has much more progress on the cards based on his comfortable win last time out.

He's a regular here now too with this being his fourth run of five at Exeter alone.

Bryony Frost is on board again surely has more to offer unexposed than Classic Maestro does at odds-on with multiple second places.

Roger Rarebit

Made an immediate winning start to fences in November on heavy ground winning comfortably.

A line can be drawn through his last start as it was reported he bled from the nose.

Despite that he was upped 1lb from the handicapper so there's clearly potential from this lightly raced chaser who has more progress to be made on just his third start.

And only his third start on 2m7f and over.
