Top Tipster and Broadcaster, Ed 'Longshot Ted' Quigley has been amongst the winners lately, and serves up his best bets for the weekend's action with the Flat season getting underway with the Lincoln at Doncaster...

Ted's bets for Saturday, Mar 23

Find the following picks for Saturday races at Bangor and Newbury. Play on the races with our best expert-rated horse racing betting sites:

  • Bangor 1.30 - Llandinabo Lad e/w - bet with bet365
  • Newbury 2.10 - Idy Wood e/w - bet with BetUK
  • Newbury 2.40 - Gunsight Ridge  - bet with BetMGM
  • Doncaster 3.35 - Johan e/w - bet with Copybet

Bangor 1.30 - Llandinabo Lad each-way

LLANDINABO LAD hasn't quite lived up to the early potential he showed after he grabbed Listed honours over Hurdles back in 2020, and in more recent times, things hadn't clicked for him over the larger obstacles without being disgraced, and was most recently seen finishing third to subsequent Cheltenham Festival scorer Chianti Classico.

However, he reverts back to Hurdles here for this assignment, where the combination of an extended 2m3f and testing ground should be ideal for him where he can find things a bit easier in calmer waters and over Hurdles.

Eased to a career-low mark of 117, the accessor is really helping the cause of the Tom Symonds trained 9-year-old who was rated 141 at his peak. Off that type of rating, he should be more than capable of landing a blow if putting his best foot forward. Cheltenham Festival winning jockey David Bass takes the ride and a big run is expected.

Newbury 2.10 - Idy Wood each-way

Jamie Snowden is having a terrific season, and with his string continuing to fire on all cylinders he can strike again here with the lightly-raced IDY WOOD.

The 6-year-old has shown some good form in tough contests this term, including finishing third in Grade 2's at Cheltenham, and most recently in the Dovecote at Kempton.

He should be suited by the step back up in trip to an extended 2m2f here, where the galloping track can play more to his strengths as he enters the Handicap ranks, where he could easily have plenty more to offer off a mark of 124.

He should make a smart chaser next year, but for now he has unfinished business over Hurdles, and can strike here with the excellent Gavin Sheehan in the saddle.

Newbury 2.40 - Gunsight Ridge

Heltenham is sure to be popular on the back of winning the Greatwood Gold Cup, but has a 6lb hike in the weights to contend with here, and I think GUNSIGHT RIDGE can give the likely favourite plenty to think about here.

The Olly Murphy team are in scintillating form at the moment, operating at north of 35% for the last fortnight, and their lightly-raced 9-year-old could easily have more offer from a mark of 135, with the step back up in trip looking as though it will suit.

After failing at Wetherby, he had his confidence restored, when chasing home a well-treated sort at Sandown. This looks much more his bag, and with Sean Bowen in the saddle, it would be far from a surprise if this combination managed the and the spoils here.

Doncaster 3.35 - Johan each-way

The Flat is back, and a lot of eyes will be on the Lincoln Handicap, where recent rain has meant that underfoot conditions will be extremely testing. Last year's winner Migration has to come into the equation given how well the 8-year-old will handle the ground, but the preference is for the Jack Channon trained JOHAN.

The 7-year-old won this race back in 2022 when partnered by Silvestre De Sousa and he is back on board here with the yard going great guns in the last couple of weeks.

He should handle the ground, and is only 4lb higher than when victorious in this contest. The key to him is often how well he goes when fresh; he has form figures of 15181 when off the track for 100 days or more before a run.

From an each-way perspective, I envisage the combination to be right in the shake-up here at the business end of proceedings.

Ted's Bets for Sunday, Mar 24

  • Ascot 2.10 - Storminhome e/w - bet with Sky Bet
  • Ascot 2.45 - Torneo - bet with BetVictor

Ascot 2.10 - Storminhome e/w

Ben Pauling has had a terrific season, and eased to a mark of 119, top weight STORMINHOME looks to have a major claims here with Kielan Woods in the saddle.

The 7-year-old has been hitting the crossbar in recent times over fences, and is yet to win over the larger obstacles, but has shown some decent form in defeat.

I think the combination of better ground, a drop in trip, and a right-handed track look ideal for this individual who has a lot in his favour here for an in-form yard.

The recent application of cheekpieces didn't appear to have much of an effect, so it is no surprise they are being binned. I like his chances here from an each-way point of view.

Ascot 2.45 - Torneo

TORNEO represents the Jamie Snowden and Gavin Sheehan combination, and this lightly-raced sort should have a lot more to offer off 110 in Handicap company.

The juvenile has been very consistent so far for connections, winning one of his four starts, and has been placed on all his other occasions, including when third to the mighty Sir Gino at Kempton in December.

This stiffer track should play to his strengths, and I think better ground can bring about more improvement for the son of Toronado. This is a wide-open encounter which can go the way of the in-form Lambourn handler.
