Ex-West Brom, Bristol City and Peterborough United striker triggers Eastleigh contract extension

National League side Eastleigh have confirmed on their official club website that former West Brom, Bristol City and Peterborough United striker Tyrone Barnett has extended his stay with the club after triggering a clause in his deal.

Striker Tyrone Barnett has had his fair share of clubs over the course of his career. Now 34, former West Brom academy player Barnett is plying his trade in the National League with Eastleigh it has now been confirmed that he will remain with the club.

Barnett’s deal was set to expire but after triggering a clause in his contract, his deal with the National League side has been extended. He joined the club last summer on a free transfer from Cheltenham Town and has scored 12 goals in 37 games across all competitions for the club.

Barnett spent nine years playing in the Football League before dropping down to the National League with Eastleigh. He came through the academy at West Brom and made a name for himself in non-league football upon his departure from the Baggies.

After time in non-league, Barnett earned a move to League Two with Macclesfield Town in 2010. He impressed and earned a move to Crawley Town, where he also proved to be a goalscoring threat, earning him a move to Peterborough United in 2012.

Barnett spent three years on the books at Peterborough United, spending time out on loan with the likes of Ipswich Town, Bristol City and Oxford United before leaving the club in 2015. Since then, Barnett has spent time with Shrewsbury Town, Southend United (loan), AFC Wimbledon, Port Vale and Cheltenham Town.

Now, having secured a new deal with Eastleigh, the former Football League striker will turn his attention to pressing on with the National League side ahead of its return next season.
