“Proud moment”- Hull City defender Andy Smith on new contract

Hull City defender Andy Smith has signed a new contract, as announced by their academy website.

The youngster has penned a one-year deal at the KCOM Stadium, with the option for a further year.

Smith, who is 18 years old, has been on the books with the Yorkshire side since the age of nine and has risen up through their youth ranks. The centre-back has impressed for Hull’s Under-23’s this season and was rewarded with a place on the bench for the first-team in away trips to Reading and Blackburn Rovers last month.

The teenager is being tipped for a big future at Hull and could break into their senior side over the next couple of seasons.

After signing a new contract, Smith said, as per their website: “To sign this deal is a huge thing for me personally. Being here since the age of nine, it’s what I’ve been working so hard to achieve for the past nine years.”

“It’s a proud moment for myself and my family and I have to thank them for all the support they’ve given me over the years, along with each and every one of my coaches at the Academy as well. I don’t want to rest on this achievement though. I don’t want to be comfortable with where I’m at. I want to keep pushing myself.”

Despite results going downhill on the pitch for Hull in the Championship, they do have some promising young players in their squad like Smith, Keane Lewis-Potter, Jacob Greaves (on loan at Cheltenham Town) and Elliot Bonds.
