Tranmere Rovers send midfielder back to Chelsea

Jaccob Maddox has returned to Chelsea from his loan spell at Tranmere Rovers.

The youngster failed to break into the first team of the League One side, as per a report by the Liverpool Echo.

Maddox, who is 21 years-old, joined the Whites in August but has played just twice for them this season, both of which came in the EFL Trophy.

The Bristol-born midfielder spent last season on loan in League Two at Cheltenham Town and impressed for the Robins in his 44 appearances in all competitions. However, it has not worked out for him at Prenton Park.

Tranmere boss Micky Mellon has spoken about his return to Stamford Bridge, as per Liverpool Echo: “Jacob Maddox has gone back to Chelsea. He is not with us, and the reason for that is probably down to our opinion- which is up for everyone to argue with.”

“We just feel that we have to be fair with people. If we don’t think that the opportunity is there, because we think we have got players who will give us a better chance of winning games in that area of the pitch, we will be fair to everyone and speak to them about that.”

He added: “For where Tranmere are at and the type of player that we need in that area of the pitch, we’ve already got them and we’re playing them. Again, it’s our opinion and everyone will argue with that, but that’s fine—that’s what football is all about. I get to pick the team, and that’s the decision that we’ve made.”
