Bristol City boss disappointed with defeat at Sky Bet Championship leaders

Bristol City were comprehensively beaten yesterday (November 27), as West Bromwich Albion ran out 4-1 winners to return to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.

It was an extremely disappointing evening for Bristol City, who themselves are in the hunt for a Play-Off place, but it wasn’t to be as goals from Kieran Gibbs, Matheus Pereira, Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin gave the Baggies victory.

Famara Diedhiou’s 80th minute striker temporarily gave the Robins hope, only for that to evaporate just two minutes later.

Speaking about the defeat, Bristol City boss Lee Johnson was disappointed with the manner of his team’s performance.

As quoted by BBC Sport, he said: “We came with ambition but we didn’t start. We were shy on the second balls and we weren’t aggressive enough. I apologise to our fans because they don’t deserve that. Disappointing is an understatement. One thing you have to do at a place like this is earn the right to play. But I take full responsibility. it’s my team, my identity, and we didn’t do enough.”

“I don’t think it was a lack of effort but we were found wanting in too many areas against an albeit good side. We’re hurting after a loss and we’ve taken a bit of a pride bashing. In one sense, West Brom looked like a Premier League outfit, which was a good test for us, but we should stand up to that better than we did.”

Defeat leaves Bristol City seventh, just one place and one point outside of the Play-Off Places.
