Friday racing tips

  • NEWBURY
    2.30: Mofasa 7/1 each-way (1pt), 3.33: Steel Ally 11/2 each-way (1pt)
  • HEXHAM
    2.20: Galanggung 4/6 (2pts)

Mofasa

Ran really well behind Broadway Boy on what was his chase debut and then confirmed his ability beating Captain Morgs at Huntingdon in November.

Progression was halted when never travelling at Cheltenham over slightly further, beaten by Are U Wise To That, who reappears as a rival here.

But the weights have been shifted considerably and whatever went wrong for Mofasa, might well have been fixed just five days later with a wind op.

Looked to be filled with potential on opening two starts over this kind of distance and a line drawn through that latest run gives him a strong chance if the wind op's worked well, making 7/1 a massive price.

Abuffalosoldier benefited from his wind operation first time here in January, but a 9lb rise could be a bit steep now. Regardless, this should be a great race.

Steel Ally

Prominent winner last time out in a novice hurdle and looks to be a progressive sort having placed well behind Three Cliffs Bay on hurdle debut.

Good to soft ground looks to be a benefit too and should see more of what he's capable on Newbury which looks favourable too.

He certainly put that pulled up effort in December behind him and has strong claims with appearances behind Golden Ace and Gidleigh Park on the flat.

Galunggung

Not been seen since January 2023 when second behind Traprain Law at Kelso on his hurdle debut.

A decent performance that looking back on it could be considered pretty good form considering that horse went on to win again over hurdles before placing just behind Afadil.

He even switched to fences and won last month with a chase rating of 138.

Difficult to see how this time off will have an effect in the weaker field but there's certainly promise on the small amount form available.

Fox's Fancy gets 7lb in weight from the Donald McCain-trained horse, as did Traprain Law.

She too has had a long stint away from the track and hasn't been seen over hurdles yet either.
